new to yoga
Are you new to yoga? Let us be your guide.
what to wear
Something you can move in easily. Ladies, be sure to wear a top that stays down, it will help you remain focused and comfortable during your practice. Men, it’s fine to wear shorts.
You will practice in bare feet. When you enter the studio, please take off your shoes leave them outside the studio door or in our welcome room. This helps to honor the practice space and also keep the floor cleaner since that’s where you’ll be practicing.
food and water
Avoid heavy meals prior to yoga practice. If you need a snack, eat something light before class and do that at least an hour and a half before you come to practice. One of the benefits of yoga is its detoxification of the body. Drinking lots of water will help flush the toxins out of your system, so do hydrate well both before and after class. As you don’t want to extinguish all the internal heat you are trying to build during class, if you need to drink while practicing, take small sips. Drink up when you’re done.
opening of a practice
Sometimes an instructor will open the class with “the sound of OM” which is a vibrational sound that all voices join in. It’s always optional to do this; you may just listen to the sound, if you prefer.
closing of the practice
At the end of class, instructors will often thank the students and then say “namaste.” Namaste is a sanskrit word that means “the love and light in me honors and recognizes the love and light in you.” It is always optional to say this or not. Namaste is also a way to show gratitude for the class and to thank the teacher.
Mats, blocks, bolsters, straps, blankets, and eye pillows are all available for use. At the end of class, please return equipment and stack it neatly. If you borrow a mat, before you roll it up, please wipe it off with our organic disinfectant spray that is available in the studio.
